Our father and ALS Though he is no longer with us, our father, Walter Kelley, lives on in our hearts. We honor his life and accomplishments and admire his bravery during his battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). ALS is also often called Lou Gehrig’s Disease. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease and over time takes away a person’s ability to speak, walk, swallow and breathe. There is no known cure.
